New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year, fasting fam!! We made it! How did you all do over the holidays? Do you feel like you’ve derailed or did you fast on through to the other side? (sorry, music geek alert!).

This was my third holiday season and I fast right on through as I have done each year, adjusting and extending my eating windows as needed. This is the third season in a row that not only did my weight not go up but my jeans still fit January 1 st! I mean, what other lifestyle do you know that allows your freaking jeans to button after just about a full 2 weeks of holiday chaos?? Go ahead, I’ll wait 😉

January is for new beginnings, a reset if you will….for everyone, even if you’ve already achieved your weight loss goals! Back on January 24, 2020, after much deliberation and research, I decided to hit the timer for my very first clean fast. It was my New Year’s resolution, just like many years before but I could never stick to anything long-term. It felt different though back in January of 2020 – like this was going to be THE year I would get the dang weight off once and for all. I was doing great at first until March when a pandemic hit the world. At the time, I was about 54 days in or so and lost about 10 lbs. I was happy with that but when the world stopped and my cortisol went up (like all of ours did!) my weight went right back up 7lbs! Honestly, I felt defeated and like giving up. Then a little voice (I like to imagine Gin Stephens’ voice shouting at me to KEEP GOING!). I decided at that point to just put in my best effort every day, even if it was a 12 or 14-hour fast and keep on trucking. So happy I listened to that voice!

If you’re reading this and you’ve just made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and get healthy, I want you to give yourself a high-five because if you’re reading THIS, you’ve decided to start clean intermittent fasting or have been thinking about it!! Just take the first step. Don’t wait for the perfect day or for whatever it is to blow over in your life because there is never a perfect time. The perfect time is NOW!!

Now go hit that timer and get started! A year from now, you will thank yourself. Trust.

Fast on, friends.

*photo cred to my 8yo for capturing me before attending my husband’s company holiday party where I
got the most fancy I have in years…compared to me on vacation in 2019 at my highest weight and
lowest point.
